Short Bio
Painter and Sculpture working in Seattle
Statement
I was trained as an architect prior to practicing sculpture and painting a career. I use digital fabrication and modeling software to create unique space and form. By leaning heavily on design, aesthetic movements, and technology I create work that embodies the anxieties of a world between the physical and digital.
Biography
I’m from Kansas City, Missouri and earned a Master’s degree in architecture from Kansas State University. My education taught functional art and process, problem solving, and building within parameters. After studying in Germany at the Bauhaus I began focusing on conceptual thinking and would spend meditative time at a monastery in Macedonia building a chapel. I then moved to the Pacific Northwest and began working at a reputable design studio. It was here I gained a professional license and earned accolades in the field. The structured reality of architecture wore on me. Architecture was immensely valuable, but did not provide the vulnerability and emotional outlet of art. I sought relief from the stringent parameters in painting and sculpture. I began working jobs at sign shops, graphics studios, carpentry, and metal work. These skills began to further inform my artistic process and methods.
As I focused on creating and showing my public and studio work I met artists and assisted them on projects. Working with other artists I further honed my understanding of craft, material, and concept. A significant mentorship moment was working with artist Joe Fedderson to complete a large scale installation for Facebook. I was brought on due to my expertise in vinyl to help with applied graphics.
To date I have shown extensively in the Northwest and been included in various juried shows across the United States. I received a duo show at Linda Hodges Gallery in 2023 and since then have continue to create paintings and sculpture while pursuing public work. This winter I was a finalist for multiple public art projects and am currently working on a large scale project in Seattle.
